Not Again

This morning I was fixing to get ready for work but got interrupted when I noticed a snake behind the toilet. Thankfully, it was for the most part dead. I know this was mean but just to be on the safe side I hit it with a shoe a couple of times. *shudders* I do not like snakes!!! I will take a frog in the house any day to a snake. So once I got dressed I found the dust pan and scooped it up and threw it outside. I really hope they don't start making a habit of bringing snakes into the house. At least if they do I hope they don't ever let one get away. Now that is a thought I do not like at all.

Grayson by Lynne Cox

My mom just got back from New York and Washington, DC and while in an airport she picked up this book. I had never heard of this book before but my mom said it was pretty good and let me read it. Grayson is about a baby gray whale who gets separated from his mother. He ends up hanging out with Lynne as she was in the water swimming. Thus the search begins to find his mother. I usually don't read much non-fiction but I ended up reading the entire book in 2 1/2 hours, while I was waiting for the a/c men to finish up at my house. So it kept me interested and it kept me turning the pages. It did get a little bogged down with descriptions of the fish and scenery at times so I would just skim through those paragraphs. But overall, I enjoyed this story and knowing it is a true story makes it really special. I give Grayson three and half stars out of five. Not bad for someone who rarely reads nonfiction. :)

Eden Hall

I finished reading Eden Hall last night. Actually I stayed up later than I should have and finished it, but I just had to see what would happen. I wasn't disappointed either. Eden Hall is about Minty and what happens when she goes back to her childhood home to see her dying father. When she was about five years old her father sent her away to live with her aunt and uncle. Her mother had been killed in a car wreck and everyone said it was because she was running away to be with her lover which is why (or at least part of the reason) her father sent Minty away. This was a really good book and a very fast read. In a way I hated that it ended but thanks to a very good friend of mine I have the next two books in the series. So I give this book four out of five stars. :)

The Redemption

I finished reading The Redemption by Marylu Tyndall this weekend. It took me a while to finish this book and I don't think it was the books fault. I got a cold and it seems during my cold I found the book a little slow but the minute my cold started to clear up the book started to pick up. So I think I really shouldn't have been reading when I was sick. Cold aside, over all I really did enjoy this book. It's about Lady Charlisse who gets shipwrecked on a deserted island only to be rescued (?) by pirates. It's also about her finding her way to the Lord and just learning to trust Him. There is also a little romance. So I give this book 3 1/2 stars out of five and I will probably get the other books in the series.

What The Cat Dragged In - Part Two

So Saturday I'm just about to leave to go take care of the animals at the clinic. There are two kittens there and oh my gosh they are cute!! So like I was saying I was just about to walk out the door when I notice my cat, Carmel, is sitting and staring at something that must be under the hall tree. I'm still a little freaked out about the snake so I get a broom to move this big container of change when I see something move. I scream and run the other way and Carmel does too. Well, he didn't scream but he did run in the same direction as me. *shakes head* My husband wasn't home so I knew I had to figure this one on of my own. After a few moments I find some courage and peek under the hall tree and I see a mouse. At least it's not a snake. So I get Trixie and she starts watching it. I decide two cats may be needed so I recruit Leo and it took a few minutes to make him realize that there was a mouse in the house. So I decide to go outside to feed the outside kitties feeling a little guilty that the cats are probably going to kill the little mouse. I'm scared of them but to be honest they are cute and I don't like to see how cats torment the poor things before they kill them. When I get back inside I see the mouse is in the middle of the living room. Hmmm, if only I could find something to confine it I might be able to rescue it. So I find a clothes basket and I put it top of the mouse so the mouse is in a little clothes basket cage. The cats think this is great cause they can bat at him and the poor thing has no where to go. I decide on a plan: put Leo and Trixie in the bathroom and then I will slowly scoot the basket towards the open door. Once I get outside I will set the little guy free. Sounds good, right? One problem the doorway is about an inch above the ground so I couldn't slid the basket all the way out the door. I got as far as I could and lifted it up to let the little guy free and he goes back inside the house. Ugh! I really have to leave now so I let the cats out and feeling totally guilty that the cats are going to kill it I leave to go take care of the animals at the clinic. I figure when I get home I'll have to clean up something gross. I get home a few hours later dreading what I may find in the living room. I slowly open up the door and look around. I don't see a dead mouse anywhere. Then I see Sam is looking at something with interest. I move the magazine rack and there sitting is the little mouse...still alive and kicking. I actually am glad to see it is still alive..I know I'm weird. So I find this container that use to have some peanuts in it and put it over the mouse and then I slid a magazine under the mouse and container and I am able to free the mouse! I took him outside and the minute he realized he was back outside he took off so fast. :)

What The Cat Dragged In

Last night I was on my way to the bathroom when I noticed Trixie. I can she is after something so I take a peek thinking to myself, "I sure wish the cats would quit bringing frogs in the house." So imagine my surprise when I see that Trixie isn't trying to get a frog but a SNAKE! Yes, a little squirming snake. I think I did what anyone would do, I screamed and ran to tell my husband. By the time my husband got to it it wasn't moving so I'm not sure if Trixie killed it or if it was just not moving. But my husband got a dust pan and took it outside. Can someone please remind why I wanted my cats to be able to go outside?? Or can someone just tell my why they have to bring in live critters. Why can't they just kill them outside? I don't get it and I hope I don't see any more snakes in the house. I have no idea what I would have done if my husband wasn't home. *shudders*

Creepy

I found this at Callipidder Days and thought I would make my list of what creeps me out so here ya go:

1) Raw meat. I can not stand to touch it and I've devised many creative ways to cook and not have to touch the meat.

2) Blood. I get queasy just thinking about it so moving on...

3) Spiders and scorpions. Where I live you can sometimes find not only spiders in your house but scorpions as well...ick. Thankfully, they aren't too big and aren't poisonous but still...I hate 'em!

4)People who do things with their bodies that just isn't natural such as "swallowing" swords. Creepy.

5) This one is hard to explain but let's say you spill something on your jeans and you grab a paper towel to clean up. The feel of the paper towel on my jeans as you try to clean up just makes me shudder. Weird, I know.

I'm sick :(

What I though was allergies is actually a cold. Last night I took some cold medicine and today I feel icky. I should be in bed and to be honest I would love to be in bed but I have to go meet this man at five so he can pick up his dog. It's times like these that I really hate having my part-time job. But looking on the bright side: 1) there are only three dogs total 2) they all are fairly good dogs and so far haven't made any messes if you know what I mean and 3) because of one and two it shouldn't take me long to take them out to potty, feed and water them. Let's just hope the guy is there on time.

When he called me Friday to see when he could pick up his dog he told me he had to go to jail this weekend. I had no idea what you say to that. So I just didn't say anything. He said sometimes when they release you can can take longer than you'd like. So he gets out at four (which it is four now) and should meet me at the clinic at five. Here's hoping his release goes smoothly, cause I am so ready to climb into bed, take my medicine and snooze.

Pillows

I almost forgot to update ya one the "mite-y" pillows. A friend of mine suggested putting them in the freezer just in case they did have mites. So I told my husband and he decided to just go ahead and give them to his mother. Well, I am happy to report that she loved her pillows. She really loved the ones that had the beads. He did tell her that we got them at the auction so at least she knows where they came from.

Speaking of my mil...her eyes have been bothering her and she thought she might have eye allergies. When she went to the doctor she discovered that her bottom eyelashes were growing up into her eye. Don't ask me how that happens but the doctor says when you get older that that can sometimes happen. She has to go to another doctor to see about getting surgery done to fix the problem. But at least she has a good sense a humor about it, when she called my husband to tell him about her she said, "My eyelashes are turning one me!" ;)

Well, I do have allergies and I am beat so I think I will go and see about reading or something.

A Day Late

Scenario: You’ve just bought some complicated gadget home . . . do you read the accompanying documentation? Or not?
I usually just glance over it and if I run into problems I will then actually read the material.

Do you ever read manuals? Very rarely

How-to books? Not really.

Self-help guides? Nope

Anything at all? Nope

When It Rains It Pours

This picture of Bonnie really isn't related to what I'm about to blog about except I think she is too cute when she sits like this. I've been trying to get a picture of her like this and finally got one. :) She's such a cutie. Her brother, Clyde, is slowly becoming more of a love-y cat. Bonnie has always enjoyed getting her little head rubbed but Clyde hasn't really wanted too much to do with me or my husband until recently. He (Clyde) actually let me pet him some while he was sleeping this morning. But enough about Bonnie and Clyde.
It was the end of April when our washing machine went out. :( So we went to Home Depot and got a new one. I have to say that I love my new washer. It's a Maytag Bravo and it is great. I was able to wash two quilts, sheets off our bed, and the cat's blanket all in one load! Talk about being impressed.
It's spring time in Texas which means the temperature is a-rising. So that meant having to have our a/c looked out...we have to get a new one. :( :( Ouch. But this has to be done so tomorrow the a/c man is suppose to come and start installing our new a/c. I say "suppose to" because last night we had a lot of rain and they are calling for more rain today and some tomorrow so I'm not sure if they will come out tomorrow or not. We shall see.
Besides getting the new washer and checking out a/c companies not much has been going on. But I'm not complaining. ;)

Death of a Garage Sale Newbie

I just finished reading this, well I stayed up later than I should and finished it last night. Death of a Garage Sale Newbie is about these four women that call themselves the BHN (Bargain Hunters Network). It's four very different women who love to hunt down a bargain only one of the ladies ends up stumbling upon a secret. A secret that someone is willing to kill to keep it a secret. So the three other ladies decide to find out what happened to their friend and discover what she uncovered that someone thought was worth killing for.

This was a really good book and I can't wait to read the second book in this series. I love cozy mysteries and to find a really good Christian cozy is just the icing on the cake. :)

They Might Have Mites

Yesterday my husband and I went to this auction. It was stuff people had in a storage unit and I guess they ended up leaving it so the owner of the storage unit just wanted to get rid of the junk. That was what most of the stuff was..junk. But we did get these three pillows for my mil. They were in good condition and had these sparkly beads on them and the minute I saw them I thought, "My mil would love those pillows." She loves anything sparkly. About the time I was thinking that my husband said, "My mom would love those pillows." So he bid on them and won them for 2 bucks! So after the auction he's carrying the pillows to the truck and he puts them in the bed of the truck. I say something about how the pillows might blow out so they really should be put in the back seat. That is when he informs me that the pillows might have some kind of mites on them and he doesn't want them in his truck. So I'm like, "Let me get this straight you don't want the pillows in your truck because they might have mites but you are going to give them to your mom so she can put them on her bed!" We got a good laugh from that and he did eventually put the pillows in the backseat and as far as I know he hasn't seen any mites in his truck. ;)

A Suspicion of Strawberries

This is a Heartsong Presents Mysteries book and the first that I have read. I just joined the club and got my first shipment of books in the mail on Saturday. I received eight books and choose A Suspicion of Strawberries by Lynette Sowell to read first for a couple of reasons. First, from what I read on the back of the book it sounded interesting and second because it took place in Tennessee and I love Tennessee (it's where I got married). The book is about Andi who owns a little soap shop in this small town. A wedding party plans on having a little pampering but during the pampering the bride keels over and dies from an allergic reaction. Andi is shocked because she went over everything with the bride and knows she didn't put any strawberries in the scrub since the bride told her she was allergic. So, of course, Andi has to find out who and why someone wanted Charla (bride) dead.

The story itself was okay, the setting was wonderful, but the characters were all just a tad too perfect for me. This is a Christian book but still I would just like the character to be human and not so perfect. Here is an example of what I'm talking about: Andie and her boyfriend are waiting in line at the local diner to pay for their dinner. While in line they overhear Charla's ex-boyfriend talking about how she got what she deserved and how he would like to have been there to see her suffer. Andie turns to her boyfriend to ask if he heard what the guy just said and Andie's boyfriend says something to like, "It's not my place to listen to other people's conversations." I just feel like that is being a tad too perfect.

Overall I give the book three out of five stars.
